Fire crews quickly contain fire at chemical plant in Saskatoon; no injuries

Saskatoon – A fire at a chemical plant in Saskatoon has been contained.

Assistant fire chief Wayne Rodger says they got a call just after 4 a.m. Monday after a security person noticed flames coming from a smokestack at Akzo Nobel Chemicals Ltd. .

Rodger says a tank of fuel additives had ignited.

He says the chemical inside the tank is combustible, so they can’t just open the tank.

He says they are using another method to cool down the chemical, but that will take several hours.

No one was injured.

Damage estimates and the cause of the blaze have yet to be determined.
